What’s it all about?

The Christian Union exists to tell people at UCL about Jesus Christ. We are a group of students who believe the best people to tell UCL students about Jesus Christ are, well… students.

So we want to live and speak for Jesus on campus. We do this by meeting together weekly and holding events throughout the year, which are aimed at Christians, non-Christians AND those not sure what they believe. If you fit this bill (so that’s everyone!) we would love to meet you!

As a CU, our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ at UCL! To make Jesus famous on campus.

Our vision? To give UCLers the opportunity to hear and respond to the amazing gospel of Jesus Christ!

And our values… As a Christian Union, we desire to be:

1. Urgent in Evangelism - Creative, engaging and persuasive proclamation of Christ crucified.

We want to be a missional community at UCL. As students, we’re in the ideal place to share the really ‘Good News’ with other UCLers. This is such an amazing opportunity! Especially because we’re at an age when we all question and seek answers about the world around us. We’re also generally more open to hearing what others think. As a CU, we don’t just want to tell, but actively show other students the good news that we love!

2. Confident in the Truth - Understanding, celebrating and defending the truth of the Gospel.

It is so important that we feel confident and able to be messengers ourselves – that’s our great commission! As a mission team on campus, we want to be confident about sharing our faith (and have a desire to do so!). As a CU we need to encourage each other in doing this and aim to equip people in evangelism.

3. Passionate about Unity - Gathering and uniting all Christians around the essential truths of the Gospel.

We welcome Christians of all denominations and backgrounds to unite under the message of the cross, encourage one another in our walks and grow in our faith together.

4. Committed to the local Church - Believing it is the primary and life-long place of Christian ministry and discipleship.

Every member of CU is encouraged to be an active member of a local Church whilst at UCL. We’d really love for you to come along, but UCLU CU is not an alternative to getting committed to a church – take a look at ‘So a church on campus? No!’ for more info.

5. Motivated by Grace - Rejoicing in our salvation, serving one another and loving the lost.

It’s all about grace, grace, grace! Jesus dying for us was an act of perfect love and mercy; we dont deserve it at all! Our faith doesn’t depend on what we do, following rules or being good, it is dependant on the freely given Grace in Christ. That is incredible; knowing it and coming to understanding this is what we pray will motivate our lives as Christians!

6. Generous in world mission - Endeavouring to give and send so as to reach the students of the world.

As a CU, we encourage members to give of their time and get involved in missions programmes, whether local or overseas. We also commit to praying, both individually and as a CU, for these causes and for students across the globe.
